Scriptural Responses to the COVID-19 Crisis

The Journal of Scriptural Reasoning urgently invites papers on any aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic for a special issue of the Journal. The issue considers the ways scriptural engagement might shed light on this global pandemic and the many material, social, and political challenges that mark this moment.

What, for example, can scripture teach us about the call to distance and its effect on religious communities? About obligations of mutual care and aid, and how to carry these out while remaining physically separated? About scarcities, both unavoidable and artificial? About disinformation, truth, and decision-making?

Papers should focus on a short scriptural text of the author’s choosing and should reflect on the wisdom that engaging with this text might offer in these times of plague. We are asking for a quick turnaround on these papers in the interests of making these short essays available as soon as possible. Please submit a 2,000 to 5,000 word essay to Jacob.Goodson@sckans.edu by May 1, 2020.  Direct any questions you might have about this CFP to Jacob.Goodson@sckans.edu, as well.
